Case Study I – September 2008
Outside view of building to be cleared
Combined building, of ground floor retail units, 4 floors of offices and top floor apartment. Leeds.
The Problem
The building here has been fully vacated in an area where extensive regeneration is planned. To ensure all insurance conditions were met the building had to be totally emptied and cleaned of all waste materials, combustible materials and none secured fixtures and fittings. As can be seen in these photographs, this would involve a lot of manual handling as our team of technicians had to “hand ball” everything down as many as 8 flights of stairs.
Before clearance
The Solution.
After liaising with the local council officials and highways department a plan was approved for the safe use of skips and movement of the waste across pavements at a very busy intersection in Leeds City Centre. A team of up to 5 AVRO technicians worked together to ensure the clearance was completed on time and with absolute minimal disruption to local business, traffic and people working and living locally. A total of 22 x 14 Cu. Metre builders skips were used to remove the waste in addition to 5 loads of recyclable scrap metal on a flat bed pick up truck.
Result
The building was inspected, approved by our customer and their insurance company and has since been placed into “mothball” until the next stage of re-development takes place.
